*We can restore headlight without applying a coating but the result will not last without applying a form of protection. Other protection options may need to be applied more often to maintain results.

Our headlight restoration process starts with masking to protect the areas surrounding the headlights. Then we sand off all the dead layer of clear coat and oxidized plastic. We polish the headlight to restore a clear finish and remove sanding marks. We finish off this service by installing a ceramic coating for up to 2 years of UV protection, and lasting results for your headlights.

Frequently Asked Questions

Headlights fade over time because of prolonged UV exposure without proper protection. Like a sunscreen for your skin, a wax or sealant provides that protection to your vehicles surfaces including your headlights. Without regular waxing your vehicle surfaces will begin to fade, oxidize or peel, resembling a sunburn for your car. In the process of headlight restoration we exfoliate the surface to remove that dead layer of “skin” and expose a clean undamaged layer, polish it and apply the much needed UV protection.

The purpose of a wax or sealant is primarily to provide UV protection. Proper and regular application of UV protection will ensure that your headlights stay looking clear and healthy long term. Some forms of protection last longer than others, so make sure you understand the durability of the product you’re applying and follow the maintenance schedule required to replenish it as needed. Ceramic Coatings are the longest lasting form of protection available today.

There are many headlight restoration kits available for sale that you can use at home. If you go with this route make sure to follow instructions on the package for use. Like mentioned before, restoring the shine to your headlights is only half the battle, applying a durable from of UV protection after is equally important. Failure to protect will result in your headlights fading back in a short period of time since they are fully exposed. If the kit came with a finishing protective coating make sure you understand how long it’s expected to last so you know how often you should replenish it. You are welcome to do the restoration labor at home and have us help you with applying the coating.

One of the hacks that is popular out there for headlight restoration that you should avoid is using bug spray. While this will make your headlights appear clear, the deet in the bug spray is actually chemically melting the plastic and will make the surface sticky and tacky. If you touch it with your finger you could leave your finger prints imprinted into the headlights. The over spray of the product landing on other painted or plastic surfaces could also affect any protection on them or damage them long term by softening your paint. Having the plastic headlight soft and tacky will also prevent you from properly applying the UV protection necessary to ensure long term results. Any protection applied may not bond properly to the surface. We always recommend avoiding hacks and utilizing proper technique whether doing it at home or having a professional do it for long lasting guaranteed results.
